Kedah, also known by its Arabic honorific, Darul Aman (Abode of Peace) is situated in the North-Western part of Peninsular Malaysia. Kedah shares boundaries with Perlis to the North, Perak to the South, and Penang to the SouthWest. It also shares international boundaries with Thailand.

The capital and royal seat of Kedah is Alor Setar. It is also the government administration and commercial centre.

Traditionally, Kedah is known as "The Rice Bowl of Malaysia". This is due to the fact that Kedah is a rice depot where more than half of the rice in Malaysia is produced. When you're here in Kedah, you would definitely be fascinated by the vast seas of paddy fields, the lush green tropical rain forests and the amazing scenic mountains.

Before I introduce you to some of the most amazing Kedah Attractions, let me give you a brief introduction to the history of Kedah.

Kedah history and its royalty can be traced as far back as to the 4th century with its origins at Lembah Bujang (Bujang Valley). The Bujang Valley is home to the remains of a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom and is said to be the oldest civilization of Peninsular Malaysia. Here, at this archaeological site, are remnants of shrines that bear testimony to the existence of the religions of Hinduism and Buddhism in the state.

According to Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa (or the "Kedah Annals" in English), Kedah was founded by a Hindu King named Merong Mahawangsa. According to the text, the Sultanate of Kedah started in year 1136 when the 9th King of Kedah converted to Islam and adopted the name Sultan Mudzafar Shah.

Between the 7th and 8th centuries, Kedah became part of the Srivijaya Kingdom which was based in Sumatera. After the collapse of Srivijaya, Kedah came under the rule of Siam (Thailand) until the 15th century when it became part of the Melaka Sultanate.

In the 17th century, Kedah faced numerous attacks from the Portuguese and the Acehnese. Hoping that Great Britain would protect what remained of Kedah from Siam, the Sultan handed over Penang and the Province Wellesley to the British at the end of the 18th century. The Siamese nevertheless conquered Kedah in 1821 and it remained under Siamese control until 1909, when Kedah was handed over to the British.
During World War 2, Kedah along with Kelantan was the first part of the then Malaya to be invaded by Japan. The Japanese returned Kedah to their Thai allies who had it renamed Syburi, but it returned to British rule after the end of the war. Kedah joined the Federation of Malaya in 1948.

Today, Kedah is a vibrant commercial and industrial state with a picturesque landscape which attracts thousands of tourists from all around the globe. Besides the picturesque landscape and its pristine natural beauty, there are many amazingly beautiful and unique places to visit in Kedah. As mentioned earlier, Kedah is home to the Bujang Valley (Lembah Bujang), which is said to be the oldest civilization in Peninsular Malaysia. Lembah Bujang is a sprawling historical complex and is situated near Merbok, Kedah, between Gunung Jerai (Mount Jerai) in the North and Sungai Muda (Muda River) in the South. This place is also the richest archaeological area in Malaysia.


Archaeological research indicates that there was an old Hindu-Buddhist empire built here. The ruins found here are said to be more than 1,500 years old. Up till now, more than fifty ancient tomb temples, called Candi (pronounced Chandi, not Candy, just in case you're wondering...haha) have also been unearthed and many of these Candis were built during the peak of the Bujang Valley civilization.

The most impressive and well-preserved Candi is located in Pengkalan Bayang Merbok. Incidentally, the Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum is also located here. This museum houses a collection of a thousand pieces of valuable historical artifacts that have been unearthed since 1948. Exhibits displayed here include photographs, store pillars, pottery and jewels dug out from the Bujang Valley.

One of the most interesting Kedah attractions that can be found here is the Paddy Museum. When I heard about it, I was like..."Huh? Paddy Museum?!?!" I didn't know they would build a museum specially dedicated to Paddy. The Paddy Museum is located at Gunung Keriang (Mount Keriang), about 8 km from Alor Setar.


This museum features the different aspects of paddy cultivation through the ages, including samplings of paddy plants from around the world. When you're here, you can even witness traditional methods of planting paddy, ancient paddy planting equipment and the development of paddy cultivation technologies from the olden days until recent times. This is indeed a very unique and interesting museum!

One of the major Kedah attractions that you should not miss when you're in Kedah is the tallest building in Alor Setar, the Alor Setar Tower.


This tower stands at 165.5 metres high and is the 19th tallest communication tower in the world.

The Alor Setar Tower is divided into three sections, namely the main tower, the amphitheater and the cafeteria.

The tower offers its visitors a panoramic view of the state capital.

Binoculars are even available at the observatory deck for visitors who want to take a closer view of the many interesting travel spots in Alor Setar.

Besides the Alor Setar Tower, one of the Kedah attractions worth mentioning here is the Pedu Lake. This lake is located about 90 km from Alor Setar and is a peaceful holiday retreat for city folks who want a break from their routine, hectic city life.

When you're here, you'd be surrounded by one of the world's oldest tropical rain forests and you would get to experience a "back to nature" vacation.


The Pedu lake is ideal for jet skiing, canoing, windsurfing and lake swimming. Besides that, you could also go jungle trekking, mountain hiking, fishing or just relax and enjoy a session of bird watching. If you are keen to explore the vast lake, you could take a boat ride out to the lake and enjoy the warm sunshine by the waters.

Kedah is also home to one of the most famous and beautiful Islands in Malaysia, the Legendary and Mythical Langkawi Island.


Langkawi Island comprises a group of 99 tropical islands lying off the North-Western coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the Straits of Melaka.

This Island is known for its idyllic setting, intriguing legends and mystical myths. The beautiful, soft, sandy beaches and the colourful underwater world here is simply amazing.

Among the more prominent islands in Langkawi are Pulau Dayang Bunting (Isle of the Pregnant Maiden), Pulau Singa Besar, a wildlife santuary, Pulau Payar,a marine park and Pulau Beras Basah (Isle of Wet Rice), a popular spot for swimming. Besides that, Langkawi is also a free port which means you can shop, shop and shop until you drop. It's truly a shopping haven here!

Negeri Sembilan Travel "The Land of Quiet Grace"

Negeri Sembilan... One of my favorite states in Malaysia. Perhaps the reason why I love this beautiful state so much is because I grew up here. I've been staying here since I was young and even though I work in Kuala Lumpur now, I still travel back to my hometown in Seremban (which is the capital of Negeri Sembilan) every weekend. In fact, I look forward to going back to Seremban every weekend.

One of the reasons I travel back to Seremban every weekend is because my parents are staying there and as a filial son (ahem!!...yeah yeah...i know...self praise is no praise...), I make it a point to visit them every weekend. The other reason I go back every weekend is because I enjoy the slower paced, laid-back life of Seremban. I guess I need a break from the hectic and busy life of Kuala Lumpur. Besides that, the local delicacies and the specialties here are simply mouth watering! (more on this in a different section on this page)

Negeri Sembilan, which means "Nine States" in Malay, is located on the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia, about an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur. It is bordered in the North by Selangor, in the East by Pahang and in the South by Malacca and Johor. The state is sometimes referred to as Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus. The Arabic honorific of the state, Darul Khusus carries the meaning "The Special Abode".

The name Negeri Sembilan, is believed to have been derived from the nine districts settled by the Minangkabau, a people originally from West Sumatra (Indonesia). The Minangkabau people migrated across the Straits of Melaka from Sumatra centuries ago and their traditional houses consists of up swept roofs that bear resemblance to buffalo horns. When you're here, you would be able to see examples of this distinctive architecture in some of the state's buildings.

There are many amazing place to visit in Negeri Sembilan. So, I'd like to invite you to sit back, relax and let's explore some of the Negeri Sembilan travel destinations and tourist attractions together.

One of the most popular Negeri Sembilan travel destinations is the Cultural Handicraft Complex. This complex is located at Jalan Labu and consists of several buildings which are the State Museum, Teratak Pepatih, Rumah Negeri Sembilan (Negeri Sembilan House), Top Spinning Court and the replica of the mysterious carved Megalithic stone monuments found in the Pengkalan Kempas Historical Complex.

 The Negeri Sembilan State Museum located here at the Cultural Handicraft Complex is definitely a "Must-Visit" for history lovers.


This museum is actually a reconstruction of the original palace of Negeri Sembilan that stood at its old site at Kampung Ampang Tinggi. What's really interesting about this old wooden palace is that it was built entirely of wood without the use of any nails. Not a single Nail!!

This richly crafted building houses many historical artifacts such as weapons, ancient brass and silverware, and a tableau portraying a grand royal wedding.

The Rumah Negeri Sembilan (Negeri Sembilan House), which is also located at the Cultural Handicraft Complex is another place you must visit. This house is a reconstruction of an authentic Minangkabau house.


When you're here, you would get to appreciate the work of art and craftsmanship of the builders of this amazing house. You would also get to experience what it would be like to live in a traditional Minangkabau house.

The other Negeri Sembilan travel spot you should visit is the Seremban Lake Garden. Located at Jalan Taman Bunga, it is one of the most amazingly beautiful gardens in the country.


When you're here, you would get to experience a sense of peace and tranquility among its lush greenery and well-maintained lawns.

A lot of facilities are available here at the Lake Gardens. There are jogging tracks here for you to jog and sweat it out, two lakes with boating facilities if you wish to do some boating and enjoy the serenity of the beautiful lake, and a playground for children to have fun.

And if you are the more laid-back type, there are benches erected in various spots around the garden overlooking the beautiful lake for you to just relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this garden.

Another interesting Negeri Sembilan travel destination is the Wet World Air Panas Pedas, which is located near the Pedas village, about 15 km from Seremban. This village is well-known for its hot springs. The hot mineral-rich spring water here is claimed to have curative properties for skin ailments.



There are two open-air pools and private bathtubs here for families to enjoy themselves. The other facilities that can be found here are the underwater reflexology footpath, the twin slides, the wave pool and the wading pool which would provide splashing fun for all!!

The other Negeri Sembilan travel destination worth mentioning here is the Cape Rachado Lighthouse (known as Tanjung Tuan in Malay).


Tanjung Tuan has a history that spans over 137 years. Formerly known as Cape of Rachado, Tanjung Tuan houses a colonial styled lighthouse that overlooks the Straits of Melaka.

The Rachado Lighthouse, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, served as a beacon for ships sailing to the port of Melaka. It is interesting to know that this lighthouse is still in use today, even after so many years of guiding ships along the Straits of Melaka.

When you're here in Negeri Sembilan, you may also want to visit the Pengkalan Kempas Historical Complex, or more commonly known as Fort Kempas.


This historical site, located 37 km from Port Dickson, is famous for its mysterious carved Megalithic stone monuments, known (due to their shapes) as "The Spoon", "The Rudder" and "The Sword".

These stone Megaliths are often referred to as Batu Hidup, or "Living Rocks".

Fort Kempas lies on one of the oldest Islamic graves in Malaysia - the grave of the Islamic missionary, Sheikh Ahmad Majnun.

Negeri Sembilan is home to one of the most famous beaches in Malaysia, the Port Dickson Beach.


This coastal resort, which is more popularly known a PD among the locals is a popular weekend retreat among local and foreign tourists.

When you reach Port Dickson, you would be mesmerized by the amazing beauty of its 18km shoreline. The sunny beaches, lined by tall coconut trees and shady casuarinas, are perfect for a short beach holiday.

There are numerous locations here for family outings and picnics. Among its famous beaches are Teluk Kemang and Blue Lagoon, which offers a wide variety of beach and water sports activities.

The most prominent landmark in Penang is the Penang Bridge. It is the fourth longest bridge in the world, stretching over 13.5km.


This impressive structure which stands magnificently across the glittering, blue sea links the Penang Island with the peninsular.

When you look at it from a distance, you can't help but feel a sense of awe for this magnificent structure. The beauty and splendor of this bridge is simply Amazing. I have only 2 words to describe this bridge...Truly Fascinating!

Penang is home to some of Malaysia's most beautiful temples. Among them are the Kek Lok Si Temple, the Reclining Buddha (Wat Chaiyamangkalaran Temple, the Dharmikarama Burmese Temple and the Tua Pek Kong Temple.


Of all the temples mentioned, the one that I personally like most is the Kek Lok Si Temple. This temple is Malaysia's largest Chinese Buddhist Temple. It is also one of the largest and the grandest Buddhist Temple in South East Asia. The thing that truly captivated me was the 7-storey, 30 meter tall pagoda found here. Inside the pagoda are 10,000 Buddha images and because of that, this temple is also known as the "Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas".

The climb up to the top of the pagoda can be quite tiring, but it 's definitely worth it as you would be able to capture the splendid panoramic view of Penang.

Another tourist attraction in Penang worth seeing is the Fort Cornwallis. This was the place where Francis Light first set foot on when he arrived at Penang Island in the year 1786. An interesting artifact of the fort is an old Dutch cannon, called the Seri Rambai.


Made in 1603, locals believe it possesses magical powers. It is said that by placing flowers in the barrel of the cannon and by offering special prayers, infertile women would be able conceive. How true this is, I do not know. But it's definitely worth giving it a try if you're trying to conceive!

Besides being a popular tourist destination, Penang is also a food haven! You can find a great variety of food in Penang. It is often said that Penangites don't eat to live, but live to eat! Hawker stalls, of which Penang is famous for, can be found almost anywhere on the island.


Locals delicacies such as the Penang Char Kueh Teow, Penang Asam Laksa, Rojak and Lok-lok are definitely "Must-Trys" when you're in Penang.

Welcome to Malacca The Historical City of Malaysia

Malacca (Melaka in the Malay language), or more popularly known as the "Historical City of Malaysia" is the third smallest state in Malaysia after Perlis and Penang. Although relatively small in size, Malacca is a truly fascinating place, with a long History and a rich Culture.

It is filled with events of the past, brimming with artefacts, handicrafts, historical buildings, walkways, corridors, and gardens. Some in Malaysia call it the "Museum State" because of its rich and abundant

History. This Museum State has a very interesting story to tell. A story of legendary Sultans, heroes, and princesses that spans over a period of 500 years...

Even the name Melaka was born out of a very interesting story...

Melaka was founded by Parameswara, a Srivijayan prince of Palembang who fled Sumatra following an attack by Majapahit in 1377. He found his way to Melaka in the year 1400, where he found an excellent port strategically located at the Straits of Malacca.

Legend has it that, the young prince was resting under a tree near a river while hunting one day, when one of his dogs cornered a mouse deer. In an act of desperate self-defence, the mouse deer pushed the dog into the river.

Parameswara, impressed by the courage of the deer, and taking it as an omen of the weak overpowering the powerful, decided on the spot to establish an empire on the very place he was sitting. He named it "Melaka" after the tree under which he was resting upon.

Melaka owes a large part of its rich history to the fact that it was colonized by several European forces.

Conquered by the Portuguese in 1511, it was later captured by the Dutch in 1641. In 1826, Melaka was ceded to the British in the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824.

Evidence of colonization by the various European forces can be seen all over Melaka. Remnants of Portuguese and Dutch buildings and architecture remind us of the city's interesting past.

Malacca is one of the most visited cities in Malaysia, after Kuala Lumpur. Being a popular tourist destination, Melaka has alot to offer its tourists. The many Tourist Attractions here (i.e. The Christ Church, The Stadthuys, The Clock Tower, The A'Famosa Fort, and many others) would certainly make a trip to this historical city well worth it.

The other thing that makes this city so attractive is the wide variety of Food offered here. Melaka is well-known for it's Nyonya food. Combining the best of Chinese cooking with Malay herbs and spices, Nyonya food which is quite spicy in nature will definitely tantalize your taste buds. You would certainly regret not trying it when you're in Melaka.

Besides Nyonya food, you can also find Portuguese food, Chinese food, Malay food, and Indian food here.

One thing is for sure when you're in Melaka...so many varieties of food to try, yet not enough time to eat everything!

Melaka is also home to some very beautiful Resorts and Parks; The A'Famosa Resort Hotel, Melaka Bird Park, Butterfly Farm and Crocodile Farm, just to name a few.

Selangor is the most developed and most populous state in Malaysia, with the nation's biggest conurbation, the Klang Valley. It is also the commercial and industrial hub of Malaysia.

Selangor is home to the Sepang International Circuit. This 260 hectares circuit brought the famed Formula One (F1) races to Malaysia.


The circuit is well-known among internationally renowned drivers as it offers one of the world's most challenging racetracks. For spectators, the double frontage grandstand (the only one in the world) provides them full and unobstructed view of the race. This circuit has helped put Malaysia at the center of attention as one of the leading developing countries.

One of the most famous and well-known caves in Malaysia, "Batu Caves" (which literally means cave of stone), can be found here in Selangor.

Batu caves is a major tourist attraction and attracts thousands of tourists, both local and foreign to it every year.

This popular tourist attraction is made up of three main caves and a number of smaller ones.

The biggest, referred to as the Temple Cave, which has a 100m high ceiling, is a Hindu Shrine. To reach it, visitors have to climb a flight of 272 steps.

Selangor is also home to some of the most popular theme parks in Malaysia. One of them is the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park.

This theme park is divided into three major theme areas, namely, the Waters of Africa, the Wild Wild West and the World of Adventure. Each area is unique in it own way and has it own attractions.

Another theme park worth mentioning here is the Mines Wonderland Theme Park. This is truly a one-of-a-kind theme park.

Housed here is the country's first Snow House. Imagine experiencing a winter wonderland in a tropical country like Malaysia, where the Sun is always up and the weather is always warm! Besides the Snow House, there are many many other attractions here which are definitely worth taking a look at!

Selangor is the birth place of the Royal Selangor Pewter. The name Royal Selangor is well known among pewter enthusiasts and those in the pewter industry.


Royal Selangor is reputed internationally for its high quality and craftsmanship, and is the world's leading producer of pewter products. A visit to the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre will provide you with an educational and interactive experience as to how pewter is produced.

I have merely touched the surface of some of the popular Selangor attractions. With so many places to travel in Selangor, so many wonderful things to experience and so many beautiful and scenic destinations to visit, Selangor is definitely a "Must-Visit" when you're in Malaysia!

Putrajaya Malaysia's National Heritage

Putrajaya is a thoroughly modern and vibrant city located just south of Kuala Lumpur. This city is a model township that has been constructed with detailed planning, innovative urban design and great respect for the environment and it serves as the new federal administrative centre of Malaysia.


The relocation of several Government offices to this vibrant city is to ease the overcrowding and congestion of Malaysia's largest city, Kuala Lumpur.

It is also to ensure that Kuala Lumpur will have adequate supply of land to continue developing as Malaysia's principal business and financial centre. However, Kuala Lumpur still serves as Malaysia's national and legislative capital.

The vision to have a new Federal Government Administrative Centre to replace Kuala Lumpur surfaced in the late 1980s. A 4,930 hectare lush forest area in southern Prang Besar estate in Selangor was identified and later renamed Putrajaya in honour of Malaysia's first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj for his invaluable contribution to the nation.

Putrajaya is a city with a vision and heritage for the country's present and future generations. Its beautifully landscaped roads and parks as well as modern buildings are clearly reflected in the duality of the project theme "Garden City, Intelligent City".

Of the city's total land area, about 37.5% is being developed into parks, lakes and wetlands while the remaining for Government offices, commercial and residential areas, public utilities and amenities. The centerpiece of the city is a 400 hectare manmade lake.

This city is also home to some of the most beautiful architectural works in Malaysia.


Facing the scenic Lake, we have the Mosque, which is arguable the city's most distinctive landmark and one of the most modern mosques in the world.

Then we have the "Perdana Putra", (Prime Minister's Office) which overlooks the Lake, the Mosque and Dataran Putra.

There are 9 bridges in this city. They are the Seri Perdana Bridge, Putra Bridge, Seri Wawasan Bridge, Seri Bakti Bridge, Seri Saujana Bridge, Seri Bestari Bridge, Seri Setia Bridge, Seri Gemilang Bridge and the Monorail Suspension Bridge.


In my opinion, the one that stands out here is the Seri Wawasan Bridge, which is an amazing architectural structure.

You should see it at night when the bridge is all lit up. Absolutely beautiful!

And of course, not forgetting one of the most prominent landmarks here, the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, also known as PICC. This convention centre is HUGE! and I mean HUGE as in MASSIVE! PICC has become one of the most favoured conference venue for high security risk events, hosted by the private or government sector.

PICC has had many important guest including foreign head of states, heads of government and important corporate personalities such as the world's richest man, Bill Gates. Due to its strategic location on the top of the hill, facing the beautiful lakes, it has also become one of the most popular places and sites for film shootings.

This city is truly a magnificent, vibrant and beautiful city. So, if you visit Malaysia, be sure to drop by at Putrajaya, the "Garden City, Intelligent City".

Kuala Lumpur

My favorite Kuala Lumpur Vacation spots? I really don't know. Well, actually, it's not that I don't know, it's just that there are too many beautiful places to visit in Kuala Lumpur that I actually have trouble deciding.

Ever since I moved to Kuala Lumpur about 5 years ago, I have absolutely fallen in love with this beautiful city. Kuala Lumpur, also known as "KL" (pronounced "Kay-Al") by the locals is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. From its humble beginnings as a mining village at the end of the 18th century, Kuala Lumpur is now the commercial hub for Malaysia. 

With its beautiful and captivating skyline, Kuala Lumpur is home to some of the most amazing skyscrapers in the world.

One of the skyscrapers worth mentioning here is the Petronas Twin Towers, which has helped put Malaysia on the world map.Kuala Lumpur is also home to many historical buildings, mosques, churches, and temples that blend in with the numerous modern developments around the city.

If you have not been to Kuala Lumpur before, you may not know what I'm talking about now. But don't worry, in a while, I will be bringing you for a tour around some of the most beautiful Kuala Lumpur vacation spots and tourist attractions that I've been to. 

Let me have the privilege and pleasure to be your humble travel guide, to bring you around Kuala Lumpur. I can assure you that you would definitely be mesmerized by its beauty.

Of course, besides just touring Kuala Lumpur, I'd love to also share with you some of the most famous Local Delicacies like Nasi Lemak, Ais Batu Kacang, Char Kuey Teow, (I know some of the names of the food I mentioned just now may sound a little funny to some of you, but I can assure you that it tastes absolutely AMAZING!) and many many more. 

I'll also be sharing with you some Great places to eat, from high class restaurants to street side food (I actually prefer the latter!). So, if you're an avid food lover, Kuala Lumpur, or for that matter, Malaysia is the right place for you to tantalize your taste buds!

Shopping? Did someone mention shopping? I was just getting into that. How could I miss it? After all, I love shopping too (or at least window shopping..haha)! Kuala Lumpur is a Shopping Haven! Everything from designer clothings to shoes to handbags to electronic gadgets, I can assure you that you can and you will find it in Kuala Lumpur!
